Looking for information about changing the clutch in my 540, Bought the car a couple days ago and it needs a clutch...not real bad but slips when I am 'gettin on it'.
If you have done this...drop me a note and let me know what I am in for. I don't have the manual since they are due to be released on the 15th I am not paying 200+ bucks for the few that are for sale on the net.
the clutch is going to run about $300 or $400....... the manual is HIGHLY sugested.....

Yes I found some place that has them (manuals), I am going to call this AM and order one. Also Great on the price of the clutch. I went to the DINAN site and saw one for 2300 and really didn't want to spend that kind of cash...But I love my new ride!!!

I tried to plan but who would have guessed that their website showed they had manuals so I called them pressed the issue and found they truly did not have what they said. Sometime next week they will get em . I am going to start on my clutch job next Wed. So the machine shop has a day to resurface the flywheel. then Sat and Sun I will complete the job.
Thanks to all that assisted me...anyone have a manual for this car they want to part with? $100
you will need a couple special tools. need a special torx socket and of course a clutch alignment tool.
remove the crank sensor before removing the trans.
BMW recommends against having a dual mass flywheel Machined.
From what I read the dual mass Flywheel is good for 2 clutches is that your experience? Or change it once you are in there anyway? Is there any real difference between the LuK and the SACHS? I really don't need much more than stock also from what I understand LuK manufactures the clutches for SACHS...so I'd imagine there isn't any significant difference between the two. But I don't have experience with the two so I'd ask somone who knows.
Also anyone know where I can get a Service Manual - Bentley E39...everyone seems to be out of them..
Here is what I thought of as the definitive how-to on E39 540 clutch replacement. Sounds like you ought to also replace the dual-mass flywheel and they don't exactly give those away. Oh well, it could be worse - it could be me!
