My 97 540 has 73,000 miles on it. The car is vibrating in the floor near the pedals and also can feel it in the drivers seat at speeds around 75mph and higher. Strange thing is when I accelerate it sometimes goes away.
Also, if I have the car in park and push the gas in, once engine reaches 1,000 rpm I get the vibration in the floor near pedals and seat. The vibration starts soft and gets more violent as I get closer to 3,000 rpm's.
I am thinking this might be an exhaust problem since I can feel the vibration when it is stopped. Any ideas on what it might be and what fix could be done?
Front tires are new, also had alignment done around 60,000 miles.
it defintiely can be exhaust- check to make sure the exhaust has no play under the car. It can defintely vibrate violently.
That, however, doesn't go along with the fact that it goes away when you step on it...
so i dunno

I though it could your drive shaft but since the car is not moving, that's out of the question. By the way, is not the tranny either. So, check for loose parts underneath and tap on the cat's and we'll go from there. I'll read my repair manual tonight and look for those symptoms. I'll let you know tomorrow.
Do you know what a misfire feels like? The reason why I ask is because I had a similar problem on a camaro. I could feel a misfire and replace the plugs along with the cables. Afterwards it was fine. Check your plugs & coil connections. it's very simple to do. Check the repair manual for an e34 on this forum. Your car has the M62 engine (4.4L). The one on the 95 540ia is the M60 (4.0L). So use it as reference when removing the cover, the plugs a nd coils. It's the almost the same engine.
Don't quote me on this but if I had to bet any money, I'll say is a faulty fuel injector... Try putting premium gas and some redline fuel additive for now and hope for a dirty injector.
By the way, you didn't say anything about the mileage. My assumtion is under 100k.
