My wifes '97 528i is really giving her a problem when she excellerates from a stand still. The car start to buck and as she explains it " it's going bam, bam, bam". I took it out and yes it does, it will buck like the trany is not getting fluid, I say this because when I made sharp turns or harder stops it would do it. When sitting still, if you start to go it will start to move then rev up alittle and slam into gear. It gets better as the car warms up and mostly disappears, except if you stop hard, it may do it again. There are alot of different views on whether to crack this trany for a fluid/filter change. It has 149000 miles on it. Has anyone had this happen to them or can someone tell me what they think it may be. Also, is there a trick to the window motors on the back windows, they only seem to last 2 years and she never puts them down, maybe 30 times a year. Going on 3rd pair now, plus the fronts are now acting up. Thanks guys for checking this out, glad I found this site....
Just down from the throttle body there is a connector to the first component off the air filter its the only connector that has a screw-on keeper.I belive this goes to the transmission and tells it when to shift .Recently I was working on my bimmer and left this disconnected (oops) well when I went to drive the Trans was shifting hard and thats when I realized I had not connected this Idem, after reconnecting this it shifts like silk,it could be possible this could be the scorce of the problem.Bad connection, broken wire ?Anyway it is easy to check out,Just sounded like the same symptom. Hope it helps.
After further investigation I beleve this switch is the cam position sensor so I was wrong about it being connected to the trans but it did produce similar symtoms.
