97 528i of 98 528i?

Hi. I'm new to the forum. I will be buying a used 5 series within the next week, and i was wondering: what major differences are there between the 97 and 98 528i? I am not a big car guy, so if you could dumb it down a little bit. i know that the 97 was a major redesign, so i wonder if there are any kinks that had to be worked out by 98. my price range is anything up to 20,000 dollars, so i was also wondering if a 97-99 5-series would be better than a 99-00 3-series. Thanks for your help.

No changes that I've heard of from 97-98 except on the V engines but that will not effect you with a 528.
