| '93 525 MAF mass air flow sensor code 1215 Just wanted to post this for the record since sometimes I don't see follow ups to questions. My car started to have idle issues and would randomly stall. During higher speeds, it would cut off and come back on jerking the car. I did get a check engine light intermittently. I found the code by doing the stomp test and it came up as 1215 which is the mas air flow sensor. I did a little research and found a few different things people tried instead of replacing the MAF since it is so expensive. Unfortunately I didn't find many conclusions to posted issues. One thing I found that was beneficial is that you can drive the car with the MAF disconnected sacrificing some gas mileage and performance. This was fine as I needed a few days to fix the problem and needed the car. I took the MAF out and cleaned it, however, it looked really clean anyway. This did not solve the issue and since I have 251k on the car, I figured it was time. After the initial shock of how expensive these are, I decided to check ebay. I found one for $75 shipped from a junkyard. I live in the boonies and no one around here has BMWs in the junkyards. The interesting thing was that I put the new one in and it did not seem like it fixed the problem. So I decided to rev the engine a little but and still ran lousy, however, the check engine light did not come on. I was about to give up after a few minutes of reving it and then the idle began to smooth out. I took it for a drive and it really ran rough for a minute or two and then it also smoothed out. Now my problem is solved and the car works great again. I guess maybe the computer needed to adjust itself after running a few days with it disconnected. I hope this post can be beneficial to someone in the future.
