| 92' E34 Elect problem A/C comp clutch wire melt down. Got out lite but still no AC Wow so much has happened up to this point I couuld not begin to cover the whole ordeal. I have a '92 525i and I love the car. Had it not been for the electrical manual I found online I think this may have been a total loss. One minute everything was fine the next minute my AC is not cooling , thin smoke and error codes for this and that, the windsheild washer pump wont shut off and then the wipers run when you open the door. Sounds like a Steven King Movie. What all this boiled down to was the air conditioner compressor clutch wire shorted and did not blow the fuse in a timely fashion. It actually melted the plastic on fuse 9 before it blew and the wire between the relay and the clutch lost fifty percent of its insulation and burnt several other wires in the harness and a few in the power distribution box. I had to untape the harness and check each individual wire. I taped up even the slightest damage for fear that the insulation would become brittle and come back to haunt me. The wire frome the relay to the clutch was replaced as was the clutch. I've got it back to only an srs indicator light flashing but I still do not have power leaving the relay going to the clutch. I have 12vdc at the relay and have swapped out the relay to rule it out. I at this time cannot say that I have power to the relay coil. I am at a bit of a loss to understanding the schematics and would love it if one of you guys could give me alittle help. I think I can locate and test everthing but the sequence of the logic is just beyond me at this point. |
