hi,
i've got a new cdplayer for my bmw who came with an Alpine deck.
the wire colors for power and speakers are matching , the unit powers up but no sound at all, i've tested the new deck on a test bench and it's working fine;
what's puzzles me is that i couldn't measure any impedance on the wires that are connected to the car speakers....
any ideas ? are there some crossovers built in on the bmw sound system?
are the Alpine decks the only ones designed to work with the car audio system?
thank you!
I have some experience with alpinestereos, check the display if it says dc error then you have a fault in the speaker cables and one of them is chafed or otherwise grounded or you have a bad speaker, this is to prevent the stereo from breaking an amp. If I were you I would run new wires to the speakers and change them at the same time since there are some very good odds that one or more of them have broken or sound pretty bad after 18 years of use.
Or you could mount a stereo you do not care if it blows an amp that doesn`t have the failsafe the alpine has and check where you have no sound to start finding out where the fault lies.
k,
i think i didn't express my self very well. the car came with the Alpine deck which works fine but it's just a regular cd palyer.
i bought a jvc mp3/dvd player and that's the one that isn't working- powers up i can navigate trough menus and everything but no sound-even the wiring was done properly.
i took the jvc and test it outside the car and works fine.... how ever i've tested one channel at the time...i'll hook up several speakers to see if still works fine..
thank you!
solved!
there is an built in amplifier that's needs to be powered up by the "blue" wire - antenna power, amplifier power etc... i haven't connected that one as i was thinking i don't have an automatic antenna ...while searching on the internet about 525s audio wiring diagrams i came across a document talking about the internal amplifier that needs to be powered up...
thanks a lot for replays !!
