92 525i motor swap

i have a 92 525i auto, has 193,XXX miles. Runs pretty good, but tranny i believe is on its way out, and car doesnt feel like it has the same power as it did 100k miles ago. I was gonna get a honda for my project car but decided to work with what i already have. My goal is performance, and would like to get some advice.

will the e36 m3 motor and tranny bolt up to the e34? if so is it worth the time and money? Or should i just rebuild the motor or get a used one and SC it?

I have a note pad full of ideas, but want to see what others think about this.

THANKS
