Hello,
I am new to this board and am looking for some help on my 1991 525 BMW. The problem is that the doors will not unlock with the key on these cold mornings. After the temperature rises in the afternoon the key will unlock the doors. I have (well I paid $400+: and the shop did it) replaced the door locks with new locks and the problem still remains. Has anyone expereinced this? Heard of this ? Know of a fix for this?used:
Have you tried holding the key in the unlock position? The relay may be getting so cold that it is taking a while to heat up and complete the circuit and just quickly turning it to unlock then back to the centered position may not be giving it enough time. Also, does the unlocking problem happen from all the locks or just when you use one lock? IE, does it only have the problem from the drivers door or does it have the same problem when you try and unlock from the passenger side and from the trunk?
I have tried the passenger side and it will not unlock. I have not tried the trunk lock simply because I did not know the trunk lock would also unlock the doors. I have not tried holding the key in the unlock position either. The car is back at the shop because I can't use or rely on it for fear of being stranded somewhere with locked doors.
I will call the shop and ask them to try these suggestions and get back to this forum.
Thanks for now for the suggestions, I will be back!
