I had tried to join this site months ago and had problems, but finally can. Great site, and very helpful people. Glad to finally be a member.
I have a 1990 535i with a LOT of miles, but it works pretty well. One issue I have stumps me, hopefully someone has the answer.
The seat warmers, side view mirror (both) controls, the little buttons to reset the odometer and probably some other stuff don't work. Most things do, but these do not. It's not a big deal, but I sometimes need to adjust the mirrors and resetting the odometer would be nice.
I have checked all fuses under the hood, twice, they are fine. Is one of those relay looking things to blame? Something else?
Also, the car had lost a timing chain and the head was rebuilt just before my purchase, as well as timing chain adjusters and what-not. The car idles more loud than I feel it should, as well as under acceleration. I took it back to the mechanic and he said it was normal, but this sounds like a little too much valve noise to me. What oil is thick enough to help quite it (don't wanna spend a lot fixing it), but won't kill an engine with 184,000 miles?
Thanks for all your time and reading all this. Have a great day!
