I'm considering engine replacement due to a broken timing belt which caused valve damage @ ~400k miles on a Super eta (confirmed).

Not wanting to give up any of the performance advantages of the original engine, I'm seeking wise counsel on this forum. (BTW, what are the advantages of this Super eta engine?)

Can anyone tell me if a block and head from an '86 528e is a suitable replacement for the original motor and are the intake manifolds the same?

The plan is to use two engines to make one good one.

Thanks for reading.

Before I say anything, are you planning on using this as a fun, recreational project? Do you have another car to drive as you're working on this one? Do you have the time available to do this? It seems that, unless you're doing it for fun, the costs outweigh the benefits.

Thanks for the response.

The shop that has the car is asking $1500 for parts and labor.

I've been using another vehicle for a daily driver (which is all the 528e is used for) since September, so that is not a problem.

The reason for even considering this work is to have a running vehicle without monthly payments and the same amount of money would not buy a very reliable car.

Any suggestions?
