ihave a 2005 545i and there was a noise when the engine and the body cmae together and if i hold it at that level the engine makes a noise like a rod knock.
I took it tobmwunder extended warranty and they agreed that the noise shouldn't be there. after the car being at their dealership they decided to put a new engine in my car. they called me today and said that the new engine is making the same noise. they told me that they drove other 545i's on their lot and they say they are also making the noise. the new engine replacement was authorized by the inspecting engineer from the BMW factory now my bmw service writer is saying that all bmw series 5 engines make the noise and it is inherent in this engine. my question to the reader is why would the factory engineer authorize a new engine if it is inherent in all series 5 engines new from the factory? am i getting the run around by bmw? i ahave 45000 miles on my extended warranty. any suggestions?

update
got the car back and they did install a new engine. i can't reason why they changed the engine if the factory says that the sound is normal to the v8's. maybe the warranty people pay the bill and bmw needed the sale. this is the second problem with this 545i that the factory said was normal. the last problem was that when rolling to a corner and not fully stopping the car seems to go into a neutral gear and as i push the gas harder to get going the car shifts into gear and almost takes out the rear. normal?
