I recently came accross a 540i at a dealer that i might be interested in.
Don't know much about them, so wanted to get your oppinions on it.
97 540i 6speed
170k
all options
pretty good shape ext, int good shape but front leather is pretty used.
runs good
the clutch might be original (dealer has no records on this car) seems to let go at the very end, so might need to replace soon.
1.what is a good price for this car?
2.does it even make sense to buy it with that many miles?
3.what problems am i most likely to incounter?
he is asking 16k, which of course is crazy.. but would it make sense to pick it up for maybe 12k? 10k? This is in CA
Holy crap that is a rip-off. I bought mine for less than that and it had far less than half that mileage, and mine's in great shape too. Stay away from that guy...and buying high-mileage BMWs isn't too bad as long as they've been properly maintained, but I wouldn't buy one with THAT high mileage. You can get a 97-98 540i with 80-100k miles for $16k if you look around a bit.

I personally wouldnt pay more than 10k for it, thats just too many miles on any kind of car to be spending good money on... I would possibly go for it if they could prove that it was really really well maintained and pretty much everything on it was new.
Too much $$$, too many miles. shop around for a better deal with low miles. I looked for about 4 months and found one I really liked.
I just bought one 3 weeks ago in Torrance, Ca for 17.4 from a dealer. It has 76k miles and 18" AC Schitzer wheel package and is in excellent condition. Very happy with my new weekend car... :drivin
