540i brake wear sensors

I replaced the brake pads but didn't use the sensors. Now I get a warning that says the brakes are bad. The sensor wires are still hanging by the brake pads. Can I tie the two wires for each sensor together or should I make sure the wires aren't touching? Or should I do something else to make the warning light go out?

You can remove the sensor. There is a connector about 6 inches away. Jumper the two wires at the connector the brake lining message will go away.

I bought my sensors from a local import parts place. They were like 8 bucks a piece. I'd replace them.
