For what it's worth, Consumer Reports ranked the KDW 10th out of 13 ultrahigh performance tires they tested (test dated 11/03). More important (to me) is that the KDW's were rated worst for noise. used

Their top 7 were as follows:
1 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3
2 Toyo Proxes T1-S
3 Continental ContiSportContact 2 (best noise rating)
4 Michelin Pilot Sport (bad noise rating too)
5 Dunlop SP Sport 9000
6 Pirelli PZero Nero
7 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position

So that's another data point. From what i've read on this site and roadfly, #6 and #7 are top choices. I'll be in the market later this year, Springtime maybe. Let me know what you decide and how you like your ultimate choice!

From what I've heard they perform well, but wear rather quickly. I would think that any wear issues would only be worsened by these cars, since they're heavy.

Thanks everyone for the input! It will be very helpful in my decision.

Eric, thanks for the details and Consumer Reports info! Did you ever purchase your tire / wheel combo? I remember you had posted some questions about them late last year.

Thanks,
Jim

Jim -

tire/wheel concept was for winter tires. Since my wife is a stay-at-home mom, we decided that my winter tire/wheel package for my 540 will be that I drive her 4X4 Expedition to work whenever it snows. Sounds like a plan to me!! :P
