530i Sport vs 540i Sport

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I am in the market to purchase my first bimmer. I like the 2000-2002 5 series but since this is my first purchase I need some advice from experienced BMW owners. Which model would you recommend ...the 530i Sport or the 540i Sport ?

Which model has the highest reliability ?
Is there a big difference in performance between the 530i and 540i ?

Thank you

The 5 series will be a daily driver. During the week I am in the city but during the weekend I like to travel. I'd say 60-40 City/Highway travel.

In general I take very good care of my vehicles. I don't drive my vehicles hard and I always try my best to follow service recommendations.

I am looking for dependability, performance and reasonable economy since this will be my primary vehicle. Which motor has the best reliability rating ?
Are there any specific maintenance issues that I should be aware of when looking to purchase the 530 or 540 ?

Is there a substantial service/maintenance cost issue associated with the 540 or is it relatively the same as the 530 ?

Also, someone mentioned that the 540 is thirty...but could not remember the fuel consumption stats of the 530 vs 540.

Thanks

530 is faster than the 540 because of the less wait. This information is available on some web sites. Also 530 consume less fuel & should have fewer faults than the 540.

Forum’s experts can add more or correct me if am wrong …

8 years back I wished to buy 540 but now, after I used the 530 for four years, I think 540 failed to fill the gap between the 530 & the M5.

Im sorry but a 5 speed 540 is faster then a 530.

I have driven a 5 speed 540, and no way is it slower than a 530. Seeing how the 530 is heavier than a 330, which was slower than the 540. if that makes sense.

Numbers lie, drive the car and youll see.

I would say the 540 is more fun than the 530. But 530 will be more economical with less of a chance of maintenance issues.

^ besides the cooling issues and the 540 comes with a 6-speed
The 540 is way more fun to drive then the 530i(havent driven but have been in one) just the massive amount of raw torque the v8 has is just amazing
