530d E60 alternator problem

My 530d computer started boming out, showing that the active steering, gearbox etc is not working properly. This continued for two months.I drove one morning and the battery packed up. Had the battery changed and one day it just wouldnt start. Eventually an auto electrician said the car was charging at 11.8 and should be around 13? He took the car in, 2 days later (apparently its quite a job removing the alternator) i get the car back, working 100%. Today it just died on me. the guy recons that he couldn't get parts for the alternator and modified it with a bosch regulator or something like that. Could someone tell me why the alternator keeps breaking? What could I do about it? Remember though I reside in south africa, and BMW's parts are very expensive here.

More then likely the alternator went because he rebuilt it with non BMW parts. Give us a call at 1.877.634.0063. We may be able to get you a BMW alternator shipped to you for less then what the parts are there.
