530 mass air sensor issue

Hello,
I broke the plastic cross hairs on my 2002 530 MAS. What is the purpose of the plastic cross hair. Is the MAS ruined or is it ok to still use it?

If you mean the hair thick wire/s inside, then yes its broken..

If your inquiring about the plastic cross hairs at the very back of the maf--then no
there won't be any problems. If your electrical wires are split--the maf will not function.
Plug it back in and see--the worst that can happen is the engine will not crank. That would be the case if just one of the electrical wires are broken--if both are broken the car won't crank--if just one the car may crank and the check engine light will come on and the car will go into limp home mode--I drove mine around like that for two days waiting for another maf to come in--installed the new maf and then with my code reader erased the code and all was fine again. If it's just those plastic cross hairs--no real damage done.
