528i ignition switch not engaging (turning) 1998 model

Turned key but car did not turn off. played with it key came out. turned car off by killing gas.
Now turns if you play with it but wont engage. Do not see hole described in other post where you use a wire.
can it be the switch? and if so how do i replace it?

Any help would be appreciated.
And if you can't help do you know where else I can turn to for help?

If I replace the switch do I need to change the key?
