I recently recieved a 1988 528e for free in really decent condition. The problem is that the computer (OBC) fuse was out and the battery was dead. I replaced the fuse and now I get no spark when I try to start it. The car runs and goes with out the fuse in. When I do put it in, CODE appears on the OBC screen and it won't start anymore. I read somwere that there is a code of sorts that may need to be programmed in to make it run, but the one set of instructions I got online doesn't seem to work. If anyone has a service manual or owners manual that tells how to program the code or keep it from needing one could you please let me know. I am really new to BMWs and am feeling a little frustrated at the whole thing. Any answers are greatly appriciated.
the code is set by the previous owner.it keeps you from running the car unless you have entered the code. a bmw dealership might be able to fix it for you.

You might find disconnecting all power from the OBC will reset the code, but will loose all the onther setting (date/time/mpg/av.speed/etc...).
I bought a 2nd hand OBC and no code was in it. you set your own by pressing the bott. right CODE button, set a new code using the 1000,100,10,1 keys. You can change this code any or every time that you want to secure the car in this way (the manual explains all)
Good luck
