Question 525i Trying to replace the console part around the gear shifter??

I'm trying to get the automatic, factory gear shifter handle off so I can replace the black retractable plastice piece at its base. i can't seem to get the shifter off. is there a special tool I need? anyone know?

I believe it screws on. Don't quote me on that though.

There is a hex screw at the "front" of the shifter, You'll have to pull the e-brake and put the car in first gear in order to easily reach it.

If you happen to need any center console parts and your car is an 89-95, Check out my other thread "found an e34 parts car".

I've got lots of parts I'm trying to get rid of.
