This is a link on how to remove auto-shift knob on an e46.
I guess the procedure is similar for an e34. But I believe you have to put it in neutral and not in drive.
PRECAUTION: don't stand over the knob while trying to remove it, you might hit your face.

LOL My bad...didnt realize that he mentioned it before. .."It's stuck in park".."put it in neutral and take it off"..."but it's stuck in park"..."so what put it in damn neutral and take it off "....lol just kidding...trying to visualize if I was actually having conversation with him
I didnt know abt the allen either. Is it on the side?
allen is actually in the front...toward engine compartment. also im thinking that e34 should have an interlock solenoid which works off of the brake switch
do the brake lights work?

johnny i may have been wrong i just walked out to my e32 (89) and it pulls directly from park to rev without touching the brake pedal....i guess best way to chk is to just remove the handle annd wood trim plate and just check visually. also you guys should join #39 chat through bmwtips.com and we could fig this out :-)
