525I potential?

Ive thinking about getting myself a project car. something i can get for cheap, make pretty quick and abuse the piss out of at local tracks/autox while still having my current reliable car to drive around.

Recently a friend of mine picked up a 525I(not sure what year) for 2k with 100k on the clock and so far has run the living piss out of it. so far its holding up great.

anyways what kinda potential is there for this car as far as power and handling is concerned. do they make Ca legal turbos and superchargers for this? can the stock tranny hold up to alot of power?

any info is appreciated

There is a plethora of suspension mods out there, so as far as that is concerned, a lot can be done. http://bmw4life.com/shocksSpringsGuide.htm < good list of vendors for suspension components as well as how they do etc.

If the car is 89 or 90, turbocharging dynamics (google it) makes a turbo kit for it; if later, i believe dinan makes a supercharger, but don't quote me on that. i believe people have modified eagle talon/mitsu eclipse turbo kits to fit.

welcome to bimmerwerkz by the way.

handling is excellent for the size of the car, however if you just want a track / auto x car, then a 3 or another type of car would be better.

As far as turbos, sure - they're out there, but NONE are CA legal. It sucks to live in CA just for that reason. Make it a dedicated car that gets towed, though - and it's a different story.

Either way, its a great car, but... power potential is little to none if your in CA. It's a whole lotta car for such a little engine.
