I'm desperatley searching for an alternative to a Bavarian Autosport Intake (Not for price, they don't make one) So i looked over at K&N, with the controversy going on about K&N Filters, i do not know where to turn. What I found was this:
It's not available in the US, so i'd have to "find" one. Has anyone played with one of these, I'd go for the Gen II, because it is the closest thing to a bavauto intake I can find, But the filter has me worried.
Basically, can i buy one of these and change the filter? Should I attempt to build my own? Any one else with an alternative intake?

i was thinking about getting an intake or just a drop in filter for the stock airbox, but after i read that k&n lets through 220% more dirt, i think i'll pass on that.
How hard would it be to make one, my main concern is...Where would i put it? I've looked at several options, the main one being routing it down to the undercarrige of the car, certianly plenty of cold air down there, but i'd be inviting dust, dirt, and debris to hit my filter, The airbox side of my engine is rather cluttered, but transfering it to the other, relativley empty side would be difficult to do without incurring undue engine heat...
Damn, decisions....

if you put it in the undercariage, you also will have a chance of it sucking in water, mud etc.
transferring it to the other side would not do much. whatever throttle response/ power you gain by that new intake you will lose because it will get more heat and the air will have to travel a longer distance.
i'm planning to somehow make one during the summer.
I have a 535, and i also came across this same perplexing dilemma. I have both the powerflo kit from bavauto and a drop in k&N, and right now i liked the sound and response of the powerflo. The K&N in the stock airbox is fine, and i want to put an exhaust to really get both sides of the air flow thing goin....
