520i frying number4 ignition coil

hi everyone, i'm a new guy,getting lots of info and help from viewing your forums, at the moment i've got a 520i and it's burning out, very quickly, number 4 ignition coil, any ideas on what that is, and is there a unit that supplies the spark for the motor that i can replace?, ta- dave

ok,hi everyone, it seems that the jap plugs that were in the car,that start with 'n' and end in 'k' well one anyway, decided to throw in the towel and consequently fry my coil for that pot, $55 bucks at a time, twice. going to go tomorrow and get another coil and some new bosch plugs or at least champions, and here i was thinking the worst and getting ready to go buy engine computers and the like, man, always check the little things first- dave

hi marti5, well, the saga continues, not only was the plug(s) faulty, but the person who had the car before me had some bush mechanic change the thermostat not long before i bought it and do you know that he (them or they) forgot to put back the common earth wire that runs from the thermostat housing to each coil unit on the center pin! It's sort of a thing out here that when you get out of the city,the mechanics are real 'yeah mate, i can do that for ya, no worries', and are actually better off chasing careers as carnival sideshow people or village idiots, anyway, i'll get a new computer on it tomorrow-dave
