Hi,
I have a 1990 520i Se and have have lost the key for it.
Does anybody know if there is a key number anywhere on the vehicle so I can have a new one cut without having to strip the locks out.
Check whether you have written the VIN on things like insurance policy, service records, registration records...etc. Take the VIN to any BMW dealer should get you another key.
The 1st thing I got my E39 I went to the BMW dealer next day to get another key for spare. I think anyone who has only one key should do this.
JUst go to your local dealer with all your information, Car docs insurance, this is tp prove the car is yours. They will order you one or make one up direct for you there and then

True. Take your VIN number, proof of insurance and a valid ID and they'll cut it for you. It should take a day or two. Here in USA, it cost me 23 dollars to get one made. Not too bad.
