Billb,
A couple of ideas...
First -- What about a few "sticky notes" at the top of the 5 series forum for Headlights/ Angel Eyes. As a fairly new e39 owner one of the first upgrades I would like to perform is Angel Eyes. However, I'm still not sure what I actually need, i.e. - do I have Xenon from the factory, etc. NOTE: I know my issue can be solved by searching the forum and plan to do this, just been very busy lately or ... just too lazy.
My point -- Angel Eyes seem to be a "hot" upgrade for many and having an easily accessible thread may be helpful IMHO. Noobs - In My Humble Opinion
IDEA -- Maybe a "New 5 Series Owner" thread? Topics like - BMW / Acronyms What Are They? , IMHO, LOL, Noob, -- A glossary type area? I'm sure others here could come up with other noob topics too. Second -- Another upgrade is navigation. My e39 does not have navigation and I would like to install the larger 16:9 screen. SIDE NOTE: I'm not sure if this was an aftermarket upgrade (4:3 to 16:9) or did the factory install 16:9 screens on later models? Not sure ?
My point -- Navigation is another area that is becoming "standard equipment" on later model vehicles. And those of us who cannot afford these $70k cars (new) aspire to have some of "their" toys. ? . :P
The navigation "sticky type" thread could include other topics too other than just upgrading a 5 series car to navigation. An area beneath navigation could include software issues, GPS, etc.
NOTE: I haven't really thought the actual process through as to "how" to actually set up the threads. Billb - I'll leave that to you.
To help out this great forum ... when / if I upgrade to Nav, I could post the step by step process with photo's, etc. in a formatted post for later use if needed? Same with the Angel Eyes install.
BILLB -- I'm not 100% sure if this is the type of input you were looking for? You could create a "Tips" / "Install Tips" type area? Some of us are aware of sites like BMWTIPS.com, etc. and their comprehensive installation information. However, new owners are probably not. ( Maybe just a "Links" heading/ thread will work?)
So if we are trying to help out a new member I think some type of area may be helpful ... I know it would have been for me! (Would have saved me some time searching...however...that's some of the fun of new ownership and forum participation ... and ... part of earning my stripes / gears.)
SIDE NOTE: I'm sure the veteran members here get a little frustrated answering the same questions from time to time. I've personally witnessed the frustration when a veteran member "replies" with the post -- SEARCH! or Search the forum - Noob!
So, that's my feeble input... Considering it's Sunday afternoon and I'm coming off 10 days of vacation (the only vacation I've had in a year) I'm surprised I remember how to type, much less put a sentence together OOPS forgot the .
Billb -- Got your PM -- Thanks! I haven't forgotten your wheels ... still deciding what to do.
