Unhappy 5 series car phone

I recently purchased a 2001 528I. The car is in perfect condition; needing only a new set of tires.

Question; the center armrest was obviously used to house a phone. I have looked at the phone cord coming out of it, but cannot identify what type of phone would be connected to it.

My small Motorola i730 phone fits perfectly in the cradle. This leads me to believe that the previous owner had a modern cell phone in there. Yes possibly? No? (versus an old fashion style full phone). However, the connector at the end of the phone cord doesn't work with my phone.

Can anyone tell me what type phone it should be? Are they still available? Will I have to completely change out the cradle to handle a newer type phone? Are the original phones even available for aesthetic reasons? used:

I have checked the internet but can't seem to find any information or pictures showing what would have been appropriate for the car. The BMW sites I checked only showed 2004 or greater models and I am not sure that the cradle, connections or phone would work in my 2001 version.

I can be contacted (since I travel and can't get to this site often) at: gomezsandy@yahoo.com

Your car should have been equipped with the Motorola Tiimeport with BMW CPT8000 software. Look at the pic in my signature.
It's been discontinued, but you could still get one on ebay for between $150 to $300.
