4.4 Liter Sounds......knocks, Ticks

Hi all,
Just wondering what, if any, noises your 540 engine makes. mine is a 99 540IA with 85k miles on it. Mine once warm and at idle has a ever so slight valve tap noise.....AND a more bothering deeper(but not too bad) slow tick or knock only audible from the front wheel wells or under car. i just assume BMW to be ultra quiet, just wondering if there is anything to worry about. I have a '99 540/6 with 110K miles and I think you are experiencing normal noise for that motor. I heard somewhere (probably on the Roadfly forum) that there was actually a TSB regarding the "rod knock" type of noise in the V8 and that it is normal. If you really listen closely, my car at idle, particularly with the A/C compressor on, sounds a little like an old WWII submarine under water, but once the revs go up the sweet music begins...
