2004 545 E60 xenon went purple / dull then went out- help!

Main question

Driving last night, drivers headlight went dull / purple, then went out

Typically the ignitor & bulb that need to be replaced? or Ballast as well? Each part is like $250 & then $400 at dealer-- hoping to only have to replace one

Havent dug into car yet, just figured I'd see if anyone out there can help

Also, any tips for replacing the bulb / ballast- not to create any other problems when attempting myself

TBH This should be a modern and very long life system, but, anything can fail...
Avoid throwing money at guesswork and have an auto electrician test it before you go spending your hard earned cash, yes?

So I answered my own question. Bought the bulb alone at the Stealership $230.00, yes $230 for one xenon bulb & replaced. Working fine
