2004 530, Screen wash not working

Hi
My father in law has a 530 diesel and the screen washer is not working, is this a common problem and if so is it a DIY fix before he spends £200 with the local, rude, and non helpful franchise? (despite his spending a £100Kon cars in 5 years!)

have someone listen to the windshield washer pump if it runs.... if not, check the fuses first before u suspect the pump ;-)

if it does run... pull out the hose at a convenient hose connection and see if the washer fluid flows through while someone flicks the switch... If yes, then it's a clogged nozzle... clear them with a fine pin or fine wire. if it's not flowing through, you may have to take down the washer reservoir and clear out the gunk
