I have a 2003 BMW 530i, Automatic transmission, that won't start. Looking for some information.
-Has run fine with no indication that the battery is dying, etc. Woke up this morning and it won't turn over.
-Dashboard lights, radio lights, interior lights all come on...but fade when trying to start the car multiple times.
-Brake pedal is compressed.
-Keys working to lock/unlock doors is sporadic. I've tried multiple keys.
-Doesn't turn over at all...and there is a clicking sound when trying to start.
-The alarm went off when attempting to lock when the key didn't work.
If you have any thoughts on this, please let me know. Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
If their is no cranking or sputtering i would suspect two things: Alternator and/or starter. Most likely alternator. If you are able to remove it yourself most auto parts stores will test it for you for free. If not, most mechanic shops can test it with it in the car.
Double check your battery terminals to make sure their on tight. The starter draws a huge amount of power on startup and loose terminals could give you power for everything else, but not enough to start the car.
