I put an after market trailer hitch on my X5 and am very happy with it. But now I am challeged with trying to connect the trailer wiring. I have a 5 wire system that has a converter. It looks as though there is a 5 wire plug-in in the center of the trunk for plugging the factory wiring system into. Does anyone have a schematic or something that shows the color coding for the wiring?
your BMW has a lamp control module which controls the output to the exterior lights. The BMW factory trailer hitch kit comes with an interface module which takes the sigmals from the lamp module and will output them to the trailer hitch wiring. without that interface module I dont know if you will be able to get it working. Im not sure if the module is sold separately but you could check with your local BMW parts dept.
