2001 525i stumbling problem upon acceleration

Problem: When I start the car in the morning (Floirda) it seems to run fine until it gets warmed up. Upon accceleration from a stop the car begins to stumble between 1800-2000rpm. It's as if the car feels like a few cyclinders are not firing or starving for fuel, however the car will drive it just won't accelerate. Sometimes by getting off the gas it will resolve it self once above 2000 rpm. However, most of the time I have to pull over and restart the car. Sometimes I can shift to neurtral and restart and it will clear up. But most of the time I have to restart the car.

Today: Took the car to Autozone to have the engine light read. the results are as follows
P0300, P1347, P1351, P0171, P0174. I had the tech clear the codes (engine light off).

Started the car drove fine until I stopped at a stop light. Upon acceleration the car started to stumble. The engine light came back on. Pulled car over restarted the engine light went out and the car drove fine until the next stop light. Upon acceleration the car started to stumble as usual and the engine light came back on! Took it to Autozone (read the codes) this time P1347 no other codes. Had the light turned off. Drove car home car started stumbling again the engine light cam back on.

Anybody have any ideas? There are no apparent vacuum leaks that I can detect. The last time this happened the dealer replaced the lower intake boot (vacuum leak) the next time the dealer changed out my Exhaust Position Sensor, seemed to work for a while but back at square one again. I do not want to go to the dealer again. HELP???

I could be wrong but this sounds like a vacuum leak to me,possible CCV? Or combination of problems makeing it hard to decipher. Maybe try the suction test on the oil fill to see if you have crankcase pressure and check coil like marti5 suggested. The CCV diaphragm
can fail internally, Just guessing here but that is almost exactly what my E39 did when mine failed, hope this helps.

Not yet but here is the latest. My engine light went out for about 25 miles then it came on again after it stalled one time. I went to Autozone and had it read. P0340 came up, which is the Intake Cam Position Sensor. I have replaced the exhaust postion sensor so I'm looking for an Intake now. There is one on ebay for $45 with shipping. The dealer wants $116. What do you think? Pelican has it for $126 plus shipping.

Hi I have similar codes on my 3.0 x5.

Thus far have replaced all plugs and coils. Fault still remained. Running rough when allowed to idle at lights...not as bad when you shift car into neutral from drive as you pull up at lights. If you turn off car and then turn back on fault disappears.

Your fault codes mean the following:

P0300 Random multiple misfires detected
P1347 Misfire cylinder 3 with fuel cut off
P1351 Misfire cylinder 5 with fuel cut off
P0171 System too lean Bank 2 ( sensor 1)
P0174 System too lean Bank 1 ( Sensor1)

Mine throws all of the above along with cylinder 1,2,4 with fuel cut off
additionally P1085 Fuel control mixture lean Bank 2 sensor 1 and P1083 Fuel control mixture lean Bank 1 Sensor 1

I am tipping that you have a fuel supply issue. Possibly fuel pump beginning to fail or not pumping sufficient fuel pressure.

I would be getting the fuel pressure tested before the filter and if it ok there after the filter.

My Guess is you will be replacing a fuel pump like I think I may be doing.
Keep us informed how you go.

Kingfish, Did you take a look at the ICV to see if it was working properly? I cleaned mine when I changed my CCV. Check the DIYs for this and maybe give it a try. I would always go with a new part rather than used, if you pay $45 and it is no good you will end up buying it again, also you are attempting to solve a problem that requires you to know with certainty that the part is good.At least cleaning the idle control valve is free except for your time.
BRET468 has a good point, definitely worth looking into. Good Luck!

I was able to fix my problem it was the PVC hose coming out of the Oil Separator connecting to the bottom of the oil dip stick it was completely cut off. I replaced it and now all of the codes are gone, and it is running like a champ now.
