G'day everyone,
I'm new to this forum, so if these problems have already been posted somewhere, sorry to waste your time. I have two problems with my 2001 525i that my mechanic and auto electrician cant seem to fix. The First is with my battery. Every couple of weeks i go to start up my car and the battery has died. Ive had leek checks done - no leaks. New battery put in, didnt help. I've checked that the alternator is charging the battery and it is. After i jump start, it runs for at least a couple of weeks, then when i go to start it in the morning, dead. My second problem is with stalling. When the car is warm and i start it up, i go to accelerate and the car will lose revs and stall. I restart it, give it some revs and take off and its ok until i have to stop at an intersection. It sits and idles well while stopped, but when i go to take off, stalls or drops revs to the point of stall, so i have to put the foot down to keep it going. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.
do you have check engine light on and if yes what codes. odd that it takes weeks to kill the battery thats way to long even if you had drain ,unless its a intermittent which would be very hard to detect unless you check periodicly any door or trunk or glove box that doesnt easily?
Is it manual or automatic? Battery drains are common but diagnosing why is hard. Best bet is to start tracing the wire. Look for any fraying or shorts. Check the ground connections to make sure their not loose.
Check your Idle Control Valve (ICV). It being worn or dirty is a clause of poor idle. A leading cause of poor idling and stalling issues is a vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum hoses and intake boot for any cracks or years. But make sure you feel along the lines because cracks can be really hard to see.
