I need a instrument cluster for a 2000 model 540-I bmw. Does any one have any idea where to purchase one other than from the dealer? Already looked on e-bay!
Thanks!!!
That's a tough one. Find out if all the E39s for that year (or the years prior to and after) have basically the same cluster, and then start searching for people who are parting out their car. That will at least give you a greater chance for success.
What happened to the old one, or are you rebuilding a car?
I sent it out to a sppdometer shop to have the pixels replaced and he says the cluster is no good! Even though it was working fine when it left here! He said the mileage reads all 9s i knew the speedometer was messed up but dont know about the mileage it was working fine in the car!! Quess i should have just lived with a few burned out pixels!!!
I bought one from speedometer repair center in california i gave $300.00 for it but the tamper light came on even after he programmed the mileage in it! The anti-skid lamp came on as well!! He said my cluster was nonrepairable so i had to buy another one!!! I am scheduled to have it programmed to my car on the 25th we will see what that cost!!! One last word beware of the do it your self repairs on the cluster less than one percent actually works!!! Also ran over something in road this week ruined my back tire!!! When it rains it pours!!!! I love this car but it seems its always some thing!! Will it ever stop costing me money? $7,800.00 for the car $1,200.00 water cooled altenator, $1000.00 blower motor for a/c replaced,$300.00 cluster, $250.00 two rear tires $10,550.00 still have to go to dealer ship!!! Will it ever end???????
