2000 530d e39 electrical problem

Hi to all,
First post

Had battery replaced today, having just auired the car a couple of weeks ago.

Seemed ok, but this evening had the following problem / symptoms

No radio, no clock display, no turn indicator, no full beam indicator, no lights on buzzer, locking from key button gone, when key removed brake lights come on. Rain sensor wipers not functional.

Left key at pos 1 for a while, looked to have fixed itself, but failed after two mins....no radio seems to be the only thing now but not convinced it won't come back. Heading of on a trip 6-700 miles driving so worried about getting stuck somewhere!!!!

Any clues as to what might be going on? Fuse related? I Was going to take it to a BMW dealer tomorrow.

Would be interested in any views, experiences,

Thanks

well it's a possibility that you'll need to get codes for the radio - or do you mean it won't even turn on?

I'm having these same problems on my '96 523.

I've searched a few other forums and googled and found a few owners have the same problem, but no one has found a fix.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Update : :

Car electrics place has traced fault to " a faulty lighting module". Upshot £250 + VAT for new part. Then car has to go to BMW dealer on Friday to be "re-programmed", takes 4 hours and costs £140!!, apparently the part has to be programmed to the car...... + labour for the whole thing @£200 grand total around £700....happy hew year!!!!

Any joy with the fusible link idea?

Oh Joy

Not at the moment.

I've just come back from Amsterdam today and got the beast out of the garage only to find a flat tyre.

However, everything else appears to be working at the moment after simply disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes?!?!?

I'll keep an eye on it and keep you informed.

Let me know how it goes at the stealer?!?

Hi. I have a similar problem with my BMW 523i E39. The Clock, Turn signal indicator, Bright light indicator and Remote locking sometimes dont work (they all seem to be linked). Has anyone been able to find out what the problem might be and how to fix it?
