Talking 1st BMW

G'day everyone. I have just bought my 91 525i e34. She's a beauty. Low km not going to be my daily drive. Special days

How easy is the maintenance? Where is the best place to buy parts? I'm going to buy the bentleys book. Not very handy.

What do I need to know.

I had it checked over but a mechanic all good some oil leaks nothing major. New brakes and rotors. So now it's my turn to keep in going.

Any advice is welcome.
Cheers ,

Greg

Welcome to Bimmerwerkz.

Congrats on your purchase. The coolant system was a weak point on these cars as most of the components (water pump impeller, thermostat cover, explansion tank, fan) were all made of plastic which would become brittle and fail over time. Upgrades for all these are available. The Stewart water pumps are known to be the best. Graf are hit and miss.

Top parts places I recommend are Pelican Parts, Bav Auto, ECS Tuning (OEM Parts as well as mods). For upgrades and performance parts ECS Tuning, Turner Motorsports, and Bimmerworld are currently the top three. For any lighting upgrades hit up BavToys.com. Habbie is a forum sponsor and has sold thousands of products to numerous forum members. However these are all American suppliers. I dont know whats available in Australia but we do have a fair bit of members from their who can help. However some members have stated certain parts can only be found in the US and have had to import them.

Bentley Manual helps alot. PDF's of it are available as well which makes it cheaper. Having it on a tablet can make things easier when working on a car, at least I have found any way. Maintenance on these cars is fairly easy to do yourself with the proper tools.

Feel free to post pictures! Hope this helps.

Hey Gsperthaust,
If you're looking for somewhere to buy parts please check out autobahnbmwparts.com (Link is in my signature)! We are a supporting vendor on here and we offer OEM replacement parts for most models 1977-2012.
We offer a good selection of parts for the e34 and if there is an OEM part you need for the e34 that's not on our site, feel free to PM me and I may be able to get it for you at a good price.

Anyways, E34's seem to be quite reliable when taken care of well. Since its just your special days car it sounds like you're going to take care of it quite well, so it should be a nice reliable vehicle
Enjoy your first BMW!

Nice! How do you find Australia compared to Alberta?

My mother got her Degree from the University in Perth.

Hi,

Well think how cold Calgary gets. Swap it for warmth and you're on target. Funny about your mom. Small world. No photo yet. Busy with work.. Soon I promised. Weather just starting to turn to sunny days.

Its already getting cold here. It was 2C this morning on my drive to work.

My grandfather worked for WAPET for a long time, including being the first to conduct drilling operations on Barrow Island.

hi GSPerthAust

I am also in Perth

There is a bloke that goes by the name of Steve out in Bellevue/Midland way that deals a lot in E34's, E32's and E30's (basically early Beemers) his details are on Gumtree.

What part of Perth are you in? I am near Canning Vale and own a black E39 528i.
