Dear Listers:
I am helping my friends to clean up/repair their 1997 BMW 528. The radio will not switch from the "phone" to the other functions and, (consequently) will not work. Any quick-fix for this that you know? Thanks much

Whenever I encounter such problems; the first thing to do disconnect battery for a while; reconnect it will reinitialize many electronics, then take it from there. On some radios you may need a code however my car doesn't require one.
