I Recently purchased a 1997 540iA and the Check Engine Coolant Warning came up. I topped off the radiator and it turned off. One week later - i am getting the warning light again. There doesn't seem to be any leaks. Any suggestions?

Could be a few things including your thermostat. It may need to be replaced!

Also, when was the last time you flushed it?

Just bought the car a few weeks ago and have already needed to replace the alternator and front brake pads. The flush was coming up on my list of items to consider before we started to get snow and bitter cold here in Minnesota.

out of interest, after the light came on, was the coolant level ok after you removed the cap? or did it need topping up again? I've got a odd prob with my 525i E34.....
