I cant decide, i drive a 95 540i sport with about 160k miles on it. I was about to spend about 3k's worth of upgrades to make the car look like new again. Should i fix it up or use that money and sell the 540 and get another used car that is newer, like a z3? I have heard that once bmw's get old they start breaking down , one thing after another, and it can get quite costly. whats your guys input? used:
I have a '97 528i with almost 160k miles. I was also thinking of upgrading my car, ubt i decided just to keep her waxed and on point. So I'll rather sell this one and just get a newer one
From a performance standpoint, the 540s are no longer anything special. I mean, Nissan Altimas, Mitsubishi Eclipses, etc all outperform the thing. So if thats the reason you want it - look elsewhere. (not saying that these other cars are better, I'm just showing you how a 'cheaper' vehicle outperforms the once pretty-awesome 540 because of dated technology.)
Breaking down when they get old? Isn't that what all machinery does? It really just depends on the owner's maintenance history. If they didnt take care of it - good luck. If they did... you'll have a wonderful car with many more miles to enjoy it through.
