Hi Guys..
History: Car was running fine then started stalling when coming to quick stop or at a light. Decided to put in 2 new fuel filters I had sitting around(no pressure on fuel line when I replaced them). Now car will not start. Have new fuel pump to put in, but wanted to check a few things first.
Question: Which of the relays in the Control box is the Fuel Pump relay? Bentley's shows non V8 version so kinda SOL....
I presume we are talking e39 here so, the fuel pump relay is up behind the glove compartment. You have to remove the glove box and drop down the holder with the relay. The fuel pump relay is the green one. I think the early e39 have the fuel pump relay 52 or 54 in the trunk on the passenger side over the battery. It is marked on the card at the fuse panel.
Dont forget that the crankshaft sensor (not cam sensor) also controls the fuel pump/fuel pump relay and if this was fizzling out it would have stalled the car at idle speeds.

LOL..well that may explain a few other things too....Mfg date 06/94 ..I'll check out the placement of the relay and try to bypass it to check the pump...and then move to the crank trigger if the pump is working. Thanks.
The crank and cam sensor on the E34 M60 are located on the front of the block, not behind the engine. Your fuel pump may have gone kaput if you detected no fuel pressure when you removed the fuel hoses from the filter.

Marti..never did find the correct relay...used external power supply to check the fuel pump, it works...checked the resistance of the CPS...3.2 meg Ohms...it's toast..ordered one from PartsGeek.com...thanks for your help
Yao..thanks for pointing out the location of the CPS...I did finally remember seeing the CPS when I changed the water pump and alternator on my 740.. Thanks

How can the crankshaft sensor be located on the front of the block when it counts the teeth on the flywheel

Marti, There is a small cogged wheel just behind the crank pulley that the sensor counts the teeth on....Put the new sensor in and it fired right up....Thanks again.. Crank Sensor wheel picture by kirklind - Photobucket
