1994 530i Check Engine Light On! - BMW Forum

Hi! Last week i was driving my 1994 home from work and my check engine light came on. After the light came on my car would barely run at idle speed and even stall, and seemed to be running rough. The next day the check engine light went away and the car ran smoothly all day. The next day the check engine light came on and was even flickering on and off while driving on the highway and i had the same problems with the rough idle and rich smell from my exhaust while stopped. I didn't check the codes yet to see what it could be.

Could it maybe be the o2 sensors or even the air flow sensor that would cause these symptoms? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, or it could be the PCV valve, I would go for air flow sensor first.

I'm experiencing the same symptoms on my 94 530i. Curious if you have found the problem and if so, what the resolution was. I'm waiting for my OBD cable to arrive so I can check the codes.
