When you say it comes on "at times," what exactly do you mean. Please give us details regarding under what circumstances this happens. Is it when you start the car? Stopping? Idling? Maybe it is just random. Please share the details with us. A sensor could be the culprit, but this is not enough information to be certain.

It is usually just random when started . It will stay on until you make a turn or stop quickly.

runspot is on a distinguished road
We just bought a '99 328i and the oil light will come on (yellow) about a minute after you start the car and drive. It stays on for a minute or less and then goes off again. I was wondering if it wasn't the oil expanding for the sensor to read it properly?? The oil level is fine is ours as well.

Well, if it goes off when you turn and stop, then it probably is the sensor (providing your oil level is good).
