Whistling noise - BMW Forum

I have recently noticed a faint, but high-pitched whistling noise everytime i hit the accelerator. As soon as I begin to decelerate the noise disappears. When I took it into my mechanic, he could not find the source of the noise or any problems. But the whistling seems to be gradually getting louder and more irritating. Any ideas?

It's a common noise, normal to an extent. You could have an oil seperator/pvc valve collapsed internally. Those things are common. If you lightly tap the throttle, does it make a honking noise?

Check out "high pitched sound" last posted April 11 for similar problem. My dealer's looked at it twice and still no luck.

Re: TECH -- Nope, no honking noise. Where can i find out more info. on this oil separator valve? Is it the same thing as a crankcase ventilation valve? Thanks.

1 more piece of info. that might be helpful: If I rev the engine while idling, the noise does NOT show up.

Re: dakbimmer -- Yes, I checked some of the other threads concerning whistling noise. It seems to be a common complaint, but no consensus on the root cause(s). Let me know if you ever find an explanation. Thanks.
