Whether Or Not To Chip - BMW Forum

My car is still under the original factory warranty and I am considering a chip. I am also looking into a CAI. The car is a 2003 325i. I know that chipping the car automatically voids the warranty but I remember reading about the shark injector (not sure) that can reset the car's computer to the default settings without the dealer ever knowing about it. I am not sure if getting a chip is worth it at this point. Has anyone else had this dilemma. Also I cannot decide if I want to get an ECIS, conforti, or cosmos CAI. I have read the reviews, but i cannot decide because no one has stated anything negative (that I know of) about any of the CAIs. The only drawback is the K&N filter in two of them but as long as its well oiled it shouldn't be a problem.

The shark (Jim Conforti) reflash is good, does require premium fuel and is about $399.00 nd can be returned to base settings. Does require a car with OBDII electronics. Many opinions on CAI, and my take is most of our cars are already set up to plumb cold air from the grill to the throttle body, so spending a couple of hundred dollars to add a cone filter and plumbing and then have the filter mounted in the engine compartment to absorp hot air does nothing for performance, that filter needs to be encased in some type of plastic (metal absorps heat) and or cars are set up that way. My .05 cents.

By getting a CAI, I am not expecting too noticable a difference in performance. I want it more for the louder, deeper sound. Which one would best provide that?
