My 2001 325i SMG, 18" 225 front 255 rear, has a strange ability to spin its wheels in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. This car was bought 2nd hand with only 10,000 on the clock and i was wondering if all cars with the said 255 18" rear wheels have a tendency for excessive wheelspin?

There is no 01 SMG, not in USA atleast. Even then it was only offered in M3 not in 325i. Are you even sure what car you have. Also, are we talking about wheel spin from standing start or during turning. Very few cars can spin there wheels in 4th gear in standing start. You have to have atleast more than 300 HP or a real light feather weight car to burn rubber in 4th.

PS: you could have bald tires.
That's prolly more like it, well I hope, otherwise you might have car problems. An M3 won't spin out even if you dropped it hard into 4th. BMW's hardly 'spin out' at all unless you've turned off your DSC. If you have SMG in a '01 it sounds like you have some sort of modified car man.. Or it's an M3, or else it's not a '01 (with 10k miles??).
Originally posted by jam101@Apr 24 2004, 05:02 AM I'm in france, we've had SMG here for a long time, simple smg c that is. The thing that causes the wheelspin is more a sudden burst of power that doesn't seem to make sense.
