I just got brand new tires from the bmw dealership even though my prevous ones only had 10k miles on them the bmw advisor said i had to replace them due to chopped tires, i also got roadforce balance done 3 times by 2 different bmw dealerships, my steering wheel is shimmy from 35mph to all the way i also got my control arm bushings replaced and got an alighment done, I also am getting a lot of freeplay, my question is 1. what can i do to fix this 2. will this damange any of my components in the car and 3. is there anything such as liquid lead weights that is the new thing?? any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Well, you say tires were changed and balanced and control arm bushing as well. There left only two possibilities-your wheel is bent(one or more)BMW wheels bend so easy on even small impact(curb, hard pathole, etc.)or thrust rod bushings also called upper control arm bushing are worn-investigate those things first before moving to steering column components.
bmw service would tell me if my rims were bent?? i had them check the whole front end, also at 11k miles brand new i brought this car you think those things need replacing??? Thanks!
uh...from my friend's past...we found out it was actually just the break disc...
they were bent...so every time we break from fast speed or going fast...
the steering wheel shakes...
that certainly can be the case if the discs are warped or the pads are glazed.
i'd try breaking from various speeds and seeing if the wobble is apparent. if the discs are warped they will cause this problem even breaking when approaching traffic lights for example.
