Whats With The Phone Button?

In my Bmw on the steering wheel it has a Phone button, I guess you can hook up a cell phone or something, How is this possible? whats it all about?

I might be wrong but I think it is for cars that have the bluetooth package installed.

I think you are wrong :P . The button is a prewiring for BMW's mobile car phone... I think. My 1999 328i has it in the steering wheel, but is not compatable with bluetooth. On the trunk (inside lid) has markings for what was prewired. Alarm, CD changer, Phone.

I was told it was for a fitted BMW phone kit, probably the one which fits nicely in the centre console..

The centre phone on the consul is big and ugly and definitely looks dated. To me it is the most dated thing in the car, so if you don't have one, as I don't, you're lucky. Todays phones are smaller, sleeker and look better.
