What's in a "Tune Up"

So what is involved in a Tune Up? Replace Spark Plugs plus what else? I have replaced all 6 coils and spark-plug-connector-boot recently.

When do you normally replace the spark plugs? and what is the best to go with (for a 'normal' driver - not a pimped out E46...) Is Platinum worth it?

The service manual that came with the car lists out all the different things you're supposed to check/do at each of the different "Inspections". My book's in my car so I can't look it up, but it does list what the service interval is for spark plugs.

you should have platinum plugs in yoru car which are good for at least 10,000 miles under normal driving.

i think he means 100,000 miles but i varys it depends how your car is running if it runs reasonable well and smooth plugs should last 85k and Up

I took out my copper ones that i just bought and put my platinums back in. THE COPPER SUCK ASS. i am so glad i am using the bosch platinum +4 again

Good plugs are bosch Platinum +4. People claim they dont get any difference, but its always good to know ur using top of the line shit.

imho: all this "tune-up" is not worth anything. an e46 is so new, and comes with platinums, and burns sooooo stinking clean that practically you cannot tell any wear after 50kmiles (if you maintain it). ditto coils, wires and all assorted stuff.

now, if you got hi-voltage coils, urethane bushings, wide throttle body, cold induction or such, this will make a difference, but not because of wear on oem , but because there is a quantitative perfomance difference.
